Early Elementary (K-2)

Core Curriculum
Our K-2 program is dedicated to laying a strong academic and emotional foundation in a nurturing environment rooted in Catholic values, guiding them to grow as confident learners, kind classmates, and faithful individuals. We are committed to inspiring a lifelong love of learning and preparing students for a smooth and successful transition into the upper elementary grades and beyond, making our early elementary classrooms a joyful, faith-filled beginning to every student’s educational journey.
-
Daily instruction in reading, writing, math, science/social studies, and religion. Designed to meet and exceed Common Core standards, ensuring students build the skills they need for continued academic success.
-
Weekly participation in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based faith formation program that helps them grow in their relationship with God through Scripture, prayer, and hands-on exploration of the liturgy.
-
Develop strong penmanship skills by learning both print and cursive writing as part of their language arts instruction.
-
Every Friday morning, we attend Mass as a school and parish community.
Technology Integration
Our K-2 classrooms are equipped with 10 iPads and access to a shared cart of 30 iPads, providing hands-on experiences that thoughtfully support instruction without replacing traditional textbooks. Our classrooms also feature Newline Interactive Boards and document cameras, enhancing lessons with interactive activities and real-time demonstrations to engage students and build early digital skills in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Enrichment Opportunities
We always strive to offer our students many fun or thought-provoking opportunities outside of the regular curriculum.
Speciality Classes
Nurturing a well-rounded child is of utmost importance at the School of Saint Mary. That’s why each grade offers a variety of specialty classes to stimulate each child’s mind.

Art
Students explore a variety of artistic styles and mediums, including hand-thrown pottery, glass blowing, and multiple types of painting.

Music
Learning to love music at a young age is why K-2 students are exposed to, and experiment with, a variety of instruments, music, and cultures.

Physical Education
A dynamic and engaging learning environment, 2 to 3 times per week, where students build fitness, teamwork, and motor skills.

Library
At this age level, children visit our spacious library once per week for a story, lesson, silent reading, projects or to check out books.

Computers
Students visit once per week in groups of 15 to focus on Google apps, digital citizenship, coding, typing, and more.

Spanish
Making sure our students graduate fully prepared for a 2nd language in high school means starting that 2nd language at a young age.
When I taught math at Bishop Kelley, I was always impressed by the students who came from Saint Mary. They were kind to each other, well-prepared for high school, and respected by other students. I knew I wanted my future kids to have those same friendships and that same education.
